Hi everybody,
the Sewers release is finished and uploaded! It is composed of three main parts:
- Modular OpenLOCK Sewer Structure. This can be used to create large combat encounter rooms (such as the one shown in the render), thin sewer corridors with a large channel in between, intersections in a sewer complex, and so on. The possibilities, as always, are endless. You can also increase hight by staking multiple walls split for playability on top of each other as well as create intricate patterns and even secret passages and rooms thanks to some of the most peculiar tiles. Even these channels themselves can be made larger thanks to the modularity instrinsic in the set: just place a floor tile between the two slopes and you'll basically make a larger sewer river! By combining these tiles with the rest of the sets of this release you can create even more 3D features, such as vertical pipe contraptions coming out of the walls, metallic catwalks over sewer water, and so on.
The style of the stone work is more regular (although still damaged) because sewers are usually part of more technologically developed places. I can picture these belonging to the undeground of Baldur's Gate, of a stempunk town, or of the Imperial City where you start your adventures in Oblivion :)
- Modular Pipes. This set can be used to create sprawling systems of pipes and vents. It is fully modular and with a lot of possible design combinations. This shown in the renders is just, as always, one setup. They are great to create cover against ranged threats during sewers (or steampunk, or alchemical lab) combat encounters. They can be used to design puzzles and to create higher platforms on maps. There are grates and vents to close the ends, ruined parts to show where some undegrund behemoth tore through them (or, once they explode mid combat, where the damage was done!), and they are perfectly compatible with the Sewer Structure, giving even more variety to the tiles and options for builds. Finally, there are "holders" which are metal structures designed to keep them up and give a bit of extra support. They won't be necessary for most shapes, but if you go more complex than that you may find them useful. I think these pipes will bring life to any puzzle or combat encounter in which they can fit: do they transport liquids, waters, or weird alchemical substances? What happens when a spell or attack misses and hits them? Are they colder than ice or are their surfaces red hot because lava-like substances are pumped through them? Oh, and you can always use these for your grim dark future setting!
- Smuggler's Objects & Props. The renders describe these best, but you can look for crates and barrels of smuggled goods, a small boat to move through the deeper channels of the sewers and a raft to move the heaviest materials. There are also "bridges" meant to work between walkways and as platforms placed on top of the pipes. I find these to be great, for those of you who played BG3, to recreate a bit of that vertical combat effect: bandits with crossbows on top of those high platforms can be an additional challenge, and the wood they stand on is just placed there: a great alternative use for any telekinesis like spell! In this set there are also levers of two sizes, useful for assembling puzzles, as well as weapons and stools and tables for ratfolk guards!
I think that this set has a lot of potential and can basically cover all the sewer needs you might have for your battlemats. If, as always, it is combined with previous sets (for more objects and props, for examples) it can be used to create even more living and immersive environments.
I am still working on "water sheets" that can be printed with transparent resin and placed in the channels to fill them with water. As soon as they are working I will post them, together with the results of the poll. The Trees of the Eternal Vigil are at an advantage both on MMF and Patreon, but which release will be next?
That's it. I hope you like what you see as much as I do!
Thank you always and once again for the support, and I wish you a happy hobby time :D
