July WIP!

Hi everybody,

here is a very quick and very WIP render for the Underdark release coming in July! You can see part of two sets: the Stalactites/Stalagmites Scatter Terrain (a rework of an old attempt at these) and the Crystal Growth sets. Both still need a detailing pass to bring these basic models to life, and both are just part of the larger sets that will feature them. I'm also designing a centerpiece for both: a stalagmite throne and a crystal heart to work as final room encounter backdrops, or just as interesting landscape where to fight during your underground dungeon explorations.

Of course, once I prepared this render I recognized that I put in it only the non-plant elements of the release, so I called it Underdark Growth instead of Underdark Flora. That said, living things are coming: modular tree-tall mushrooms and carnivorous plants will make up the rest of the release, adding two more sets of scatter terrain.

Most fantasy ttrpg campaigns spend some time underground, and whether you'll end up in a high fantasy worlds-below or in more mundane grottos, these sets should help in bringing depth to them and making them more visually interesting at the table. Also, these make for a great addition to cave dioramas. I can't wait to show you the modular mushrooms I am currently working on (these really need the detailing phase done before I can show them), because they will make tabletop fights way more 3D! Someone said Feywild forests?

That's it for now! I'll be back the first days of the month with the first batch of the release, and soon later with the next poll and the final release batch.

Thanks a lot for the support, and I wish you a happy hobby time! :D

Yea, supportless are definitely preferred

I have zero experience with FDM supports, but I will try to make them as supportless as possible in the splitting phase :) It will be harder for crystals, since they jump out more, but stalagmites and stalactites should be easier to arrange that way since they are naturally vertical.

I love this. I am looking forward to trying to print the stalactites and stalagmites in PLA and then melt the layer lines away with isopropyl alcohol. Can you make them printable in parts without supports? That or provide pre-supported FDM models? I have yet to figure out how to get good supports for my FDM printer.

Nice!
