The Cathedral of the Martyr: UP!

Hi everybody,

the Cathedral is up! With a couple of disclaimers.

First of all, the release is not complete. I thought I'd manage to finish it all this week but I don't want to rush the Cultist Objects and Props set, and I think it deserves a bit more love and detail then the current stage it's at. That is why I will be posting that last part of the release later during this month. I apologize for the delay, but I think the Cathedral shows why that happened!

Second: same goes for supports. These should come early next week as I finish testing the last pieces of the project.

Why it is taking so long? Well, this thing is humongous. A few month ago I decided to reduce the cost of the subscription options to mirror the reduced output volume of new releases aaand, well, when I have a big project such as this one in mind, I forget that and get carried away. The Cathedral - to deserve that name - had to be large. It had to be detailed, with an articulated look, to give that gothic vibe. This is my attempt at that. I am pretty happy with the result, but I won't lie: it took way longer than expected!

The front is layered and it is 49 cm tall and 41 cm wide, while the structure is modular in length, so that you can make it as large as you want. The original plan had a round back (what's the name? Apse?) BUT the time the front and sides required rapidly scaled up, and so I understood I couldn't deliver the whole thing in one month of work. The rounded back will come as a mausoleum option in the coming poll, perfectly compatible with this release but also useful as a stand alone project (more on this on the next poll post). However, I want to deliver complete locations each month, hence the ruined "open" back. I imagine some kind of large scale spell tore through wood and stone, destroying the back of the cathedral with an almost clear cut. The result, I think, is an iconic location for some Dark Soulish boss fight!

As always, you can print only a small part of the Cathedral to set up the location vibe, or you can use just a few tiles and kitbash options to make your own smaller terrain. You can check the instructions for all the detail on how to assemble the thing. It looks more monstrous than what it actually is!

I plan to use the front as a backdrop for a town square fight, before moving in the Cathedral itself for a boss fight, and then maybe a "resist the horde" scenario once the heroes interrupt the ritual inside. The Cultist Objects and Props set coming should help with that idea :)

December and January up to this point have been suuuper busy months. As I have been saying throughout this post, the Cathedral project has taken a lot of time. It had been a while since I made a project this large, and I think I will wait a bit before I make another one. I actually like to focus on scatter terrain and objects & props, since I find them more versatile and easier to print, but I also know that some of you love larger projects from time to time (as do I), and I try to make room for them when the poll calls for them. Anyway, let me know what you think about this kind of project, and even if you won't print the whole thing, I hope you'll find a use for the many tile options & kitbash pieces in your builds :)

As soon as supports and Objects and Props are ready I'll make sure to post an update. The poll for March is coming in a few days too.

I hope you had a great start of the year. Thanks for the patience and - more than ever given the delay - your support.

I wish you a happy hobby time! :D

This is awesome, and has so much potential for soooo many different builds!

Thanks a lot for the kind words! In case this happen I will definitely split the release in two, making both valuable as stand alone sets, but also making a complete build possible!

This is really spectacular. Thrilled to see all the windows and modular parts!

Honestly, I don’t actually mind that this comes in two parts, it’s useable as is. And combines with an upcoming set to make an even better set. I’m fine with it.

I don't think any of us mind you getting carried away with a project of this scale, it's absolutely stunning. But realistically it is a KS scale project, if you are going to do anything of this scale and detail again (please do, you're bloody good at it) I think you will have to issue it as a multiple month release. I dislike minis released over more than one month, but I can't forsee any other way of you doing such epic (in every sense of the word) miniatures on this platform. The amount of work involved needs spreading over the longer term, and you certainly deserve reasonable compensation for your time and skills.
