One Shot - Marvel Pt. 1
Added 2022-06-25 20:22:24 +0000 UTCI know I don't normally add notes to my posts, but I just wanted to add that this will be a two part one shot, this was much longer than I had originally wanted and not only do I feel like it still isn't right but I wanted to get it up before it got too out of hand. Also, I wrote this is in 2nd person which is something I've never done before but I felt it was the best way to go with this pairing. I'm currently experimenting with other worlds outside of Twilight and Harry Potter and this just happened to be the first one I could write enough of and feel comfortable about. Thank you all for being my unwilling guinea pigs for stepping out of my writing comfort zone! =D
Story:
Living in New York was something you never got used to. Moving from the Midwest to a big city like New York wasn’t something you had every planned on doing. But after learning the company you worked for was closing the branch in your town and moving to New York for better business opportunities, you had little choice but to follow; especially since it was a business your best friend owned.
Long story short, your friend Billie, not to be confused with the artist or she may likely maim you for making the comparison, was your only family. After having had to leave your blood related family behind after they found out you were gay, it was more a blessing than a curse that they kicked you out of the family and Billie’s family took you in. It was only a few months after high school graduation did Billie’s family die in an accident caused by some mutant that had apparently decided to prove how strong they were. Because of that happening though, Billie decided to use her own persuasion gift to her advantage and built a network online to connect all the mutants coming out.
It was Billie’s dream to be able to get to any mutant that their family didn’t accept and to be able to help them in one way or another. After a few years of doing so from your small town in the middle of nowhere, it was getting really hard for you two to do much. So, since some of the stronger mutants were in New York, especially after the Battle of New York and the Avengers new compound, and a few close calls with the very mutants they were trying to help attacking them, Billie figured it would be safer to go to a city that was better capable to help them in case they needed help themselves.
You never wanted to help mutants, not that you had anything against them, your best friend was one after all, but you also didn’t want to lose your only family who was completely convinced moving their nonprofit to New York was the only way to grow the business. Personally, you thought Billie was just trying to get more popularity in hopes either the X-Men or the Avengers took notice enough of her to invite her to join them. The thing was, and you would never tell her, her gift wasn’t very strong. If someone knew what she was doing, they could shake off her gift. Thankfully, Billie got most of their donations online where she was able to put her unique gift to use by adding persuasion to her words on the internet to convince people to donate.
Yes, you knew that could very well be viewed as stealing but since Billie wasn’t that strong and people had to have already been interested in the first place for her gift to work on them, you tried not to feel too bad about it. Plus, it did get you out of that small town that held no love for you. Being one of the very few out people in a town full of religious bigots was hard. So, when Billie decided she was going to move to New York to try and expand her business, you decided to join her.
After being in New York and watching mutants like Spider Man, and the Avengers, you thought you were in a pretty safe city. Yes, there were still muggings and crime and whatnot. But you were sure the crime rate had to be down since there were so many people there to stop the criminals. It never really crossed your mind that the reason there were so many super heroes in town was because there was an abundance of criminals in town.
It had only been a few months since the Avengers got a full pardon for the destruction they had helped caused when the aliens attacked. Thankfully there were a lot of younger people that marched and defended the Avengers and pointed out that without what the Avengers did, without them having to wait for a bunch of suits on the other side of the county to decide what to do, the Avengers saved more lives and prevented more damage to the city than if they had waited to be told what to do. It was a long fight you watched religiously on the television until the Avengers were pardoned and allowed near free reign to protect the people. Since wherever the Avengers went there tended to be a lot of cameras, everyone was sure that if they stepped out of line, they would be locked up on an island prison where they wouldn’t be able to escape very easily. You didn’t know the details, you were only happy that it was one step closet for mutants to be safe.
You were fortunate enough to find an apartment within a few blocks of where Billie had found an office space. Well, it was most like a few blocks and a subway ride, but it wasn’t too far! It was really only about a twenty minute trip. After being in New York for a while, you had quickly learned that while you didn’t live too far from the subway, you still had to be on guard. You had once walked past a purse thief on your way home; thankfully a kind man had been able to trip the thief and the screaming woman got her purse back. But it was enough of a shock for you to realize you weren’t in your small town anymore.
Tonight you had to work late. You were finalizing some things for the business, something Billie had asked you to do a while ago but you had procrastinated on doing it because you knew it would be easy and wouldn’t take too long to do… you probably shouldn’t have waited until the day before it needed to be done to do it, but at least it was done on time. It was just unfortunate you had to leave a few hours late because once again, you procrastinated the entire day and it wasn’t until Billie reminded you before she left a little early to send her the report. Oops.
The subway wasn’t as full as it normally was, but there was enough traffic to still have to sit next to someone on the ride. Which was fine, at least you got to sit instead of standing and you would consider that a win. It wasn’t until you were walking down your street that you realized not only how dark it had gotten but also how empty it was. Wasn’t New York the city that never slept or something? Apparently the city still slept when you didn’t want them to.
Every noise you heard made you flinch. You had heard so many horror stories about what had happened to women walking alone at night that you practically waiting for some smelling man to slip out of the shadows and attack you. Before too long, and after only a couple heart attacks from rats deciding to run across your path, you may not live in the worst part of town but it was definingly right next to it, you could see your apartment building in the distance.
With a sigh of relief that home was in sight and you would be fine, someone started walking right next you, so in step with you that you couldn’t help but screech from the surprise of not hearing them come up to you and from how close they were.
A deep chuckle caused you to focus on the man in what seemed like causal clothing and chuckling at you looked like. He had short, cropped hair and had the most calming eyes you had ever seem. He looked safe. But so did so many other creeps from what you had heard, so you kept your guard up.
“Can I help you?” You asked in what you hoped was a harsh tone to show that while you may have just squealed, it was mostly just in shock you had done that and that you were a strong female capable of protecting yourself. The fact that the best defense you knew was to kick him in the balls was besides the point.
“I’m sorry, I just figured with how late it was, you wouldn’t mind having some company.” The man said as your eyes widen in recognition of who this man was, “Since I was here, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to walk with you.”
It was only when you heard his voice that you took in that his causal clothes were really just a hoodie and sweatpants and the man had large bow across his back. How could you have not recognized him? His poster was everywhere after all he done to help with the Avengers getting pardoned and with saving Sokovia from those robots, you should have recognized him! This was Hawkeye! You were definitely safe with him around!
“Oh my god!” Your face flushed red as you realized you were actually thinking about calling to cops on him. Good thing you didn’t voice that plan out loud. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t realize who it was, I was just focusing on getting home.” You said as you pointed down the street towards your apartment.
“It’s okay, you seemed pretty lost in thought there but since it’s so dark out, I figured I could walk a pretty lady home.” Clint said with a smile. What you didn’t know was that Clint had spotted some men not too far from you that had started to follow you from the other side of the street. He figured instead of starting a fight, it was late after all and he was tired, he could just walk with you until you got home safely. He probably should have said something instead of sneaking up next to you, but that’s okay, Nat could tease him later for his lack of manners. “Is it okay if I continue to walk with you? I just got back from a mission and I would like to stretch my legs a little before going back to the compound.”
That was how you and Hawkeye, who insisted you call him Clint, started to become friends. It was so easy to talk with him and it seemed he thought the same about you. The fact when he mentioned his family for the first time and completely panicked and literally threatened your life about it, showed he found you very easy to talk with as well. It was cute to listen to Clint talk about his soul mate the way he did; he was so smitten with her that you actually became a little jealous that you hadn’t met your soul mate yet.
Soul mates were common enough to not be a common discussion but not common enough for everyone to be guaranteed to have one. Supposedly, when you met them, a mark that represented both parties would appear on your wrist and while it all sounded nice, it was something you never wanted. After seeing the disaster your family was with their own soul mate issues and what your family had done to you, you were never interested in a relationship. You were satisfied enough to be able to talk with Billie about the cute barista you saw at the little coffee shop and having Billie encourage you to ask her out. You didn’t think you could handle a relationship with the emotional baggage you carried from your childhood, a relationship just wasn’t in the cards for you.
So, when Clint asked if you wanted to go over for the memorial holiday to his families farm to celebrate when his family and friends, friends you knew would be in the avengers, you only thought of being able to meet the woman Clint spoke so highly of. You had heard so much about her that you felt you already knew her and would love her. Of course, you already knew you would love his kids since they always seemed to give him grief, so accepting the invitation seemed right. Billie questioned it for only a few seconds because she already had plans with a group of people she had made friends with, people you personally wanted nothing to do with as they rubbed you the wrong way. So the two of you decided made plans elsewhere for the holiday and would be back in time for work.
When you first moved to New York, you never expected to make friends much less make friends with an Avenger. It all seemed surreal as Clint drove, since you moved to New York having a car wasn’t really practical, so Clint was your ride to and from the weekend getaway. Yes, Clint was only one person you had even made the effort to befriend in New York, but it was still more than you had expected. As Clint drove up to what appeared to be an isolated farm house in the middle of nowhere, you got a sense of deja vu. It reminded you of the home you had grown up in that was nothing but a nightmare. You had to take a deep breath to calm your nerves as Clint reminded you of who all was going to be there.
There were going to be a lot of A-list people there; a lot of Avengers. You already knew that give that Clint was an Avenger and always talked about his friends antics on missions and in between missions. Thankfully you weren’t nervous about meeting ‘celebrities’ so much as you were worried about there being so many people in one space. It made you more anxious about saying something wrong or doing something stupid and having the perfect super heroes judge you for it. There wouldn’t be any escape for you from the embarrassment seeing as Clint was your ride and there was no way you would ask him to leave his family early.
“Don’t worry,” Clint said, easily reading your concerns from the expression on your face. It also helped that Clint was trained as a spy and could very easily read you with his eyes closed, “They’ll love you and if they don’t, they certainly won’t say anything since you’re my guest and my wife will beat up anyone who treats you bad.” He added with a teasing smile. He had always told you how much his wife scared basically the entire team into doing what she wanted when in her house.
You gave him your brightest smile, you were an adult and you could act like when needed. It wasn’t like these people were your family anyways; you had nothing to worry about.
“I’m fine Clint, but thank you anyways.” You knew you were being silly, just because his house looking similar to your childhood home didn’t mean they were same. You were too far from your family and their influences, you were fine. It would be an amazing weekend, celebrating with the first friend you’ve ever had outside of Billie and you would have a amazing time. You could be social when you needed to and you actually wanted to be this time.
You both got out of the car just as three kids bolted out of the house. The kids yelled in obvious joy as they practically tackled Clint to the ground. Clint laughed as he was viciously attacked by his family. It was nice seeing Clint so carefree. He had mentioned many times missing his family but unable to completely turn away from helping people, so seeing him with his family was nice.
“Hey, you’ve had your turn, let me say hi.” A beautiful woman said as she came out of the house and hugged Clint in greeting. “Welcome home.” It felt like a moment you weren’t supposed to intrude on, but you didn’t exactly feel comfortable barging into the house you’ve never been in before. Thankfully, Clint’s explanations of his wife being an amazing hostess came through. “You must be this new friend that likes to have late night walks my husband has spoken so much about.” The woman said with a smile, “My name is Laura.” She said as she held out her hand.
You shook her hand and greeted her in kind, giving your name even though you were sure Clint had obviously already told her.
“Is everyone here already?” Clint asked as he lifted the youngest kid to sit on his shoulders while the other two attached themselves to his legs.
“Yup, they’re all here.” Laura said with a smile towards him then turned back towards you, “They got here not too long before you two. Why don’t I show you to the room you’ll be in and let you unpack?” She asked with a pointed look towards the trunk where my suitcase was.
“I’ll get it.” The middle child happily volunteered, clearly happy to help with anything they could.
“Why don’t you go unpack, I believe Natasha and Wanda are still in there unpacking themselves since they are going to be here for an extended weekend, and then all three of you can come down for dinner?” Laura asked you with a smile. “Probably shouldn’t another hour or so before dinner is ready, right Clint?”
“Of course, I’m sure Tony hasn’t burnt any of the food at all.” Clint said while giving you a wink, he knew his wife would do everything he could to make you feel comfortable and having you go straight to your room instead of meeting everyone was the best way to do that. It was too bad there were too many people staying in the house for the guests to have their own room. But at least it was just two people you were sharing; you could probably handle that.
“Thank you.” You said with a smile and started to follow the kid with your lone suitcase into the house.
Your room was fairly easy to get to and the door was wide open, so the kid went right inside without even knocking. With a deep breathe to calm your nerves, you had heard about how scary both women could be and didn’t want to accidently get on either of their bad sides you knew they were the ones forced to share a bed and you were taking a blow up mattress on the floor which was fine. At least you didn’t want to share a bed with someone you didn’t know and at least you only had two roommates, you had heard there were four boys in one of the rooms. So you would consider yourself lucky there weren’t as many girls on the team.
When you walked inside you saw who you knew to be the Scarlet Witch sitting on the bed and the Black Widow leaning against the wall facing the door. They seemed to have been in the middle of a conversation even though you hadn’t heard any talking when you walking in. As you took in both women, you felt a sharp burn on both of your wrists and couldn’t help but hiss in pain as you immediately looked to investigate what had bit you.
“This is your last roommate.” The kid said as you stared with wide eyes down at your wrists in complete shock. You heard of this happening but had never thought it would happen to you. “Mom says dinner will be ready in like an hour or something and that dad is cooking, so hopefully Tony won’t burn everything again.” The kid said before bouncing out of the room with energy only a kid could possess.
Neither of the Avengers said anything and you were too focused on your wrists to say anything to the kid that slid past you much less the women who were probably waiting for a greeting of some sort. But you couldn’t help it, your wrists had taken up all of your attention.
On one wrist, there was the black widow mark, something you knew meant to stand for the Black Widow herself. It was a beautiful mark with deep black outline and a bright red middle. It was beautiful and unnerving. Then on the other wrist, even more surprising because you had never thought to get one mark never mind two, a broom and wand crossed with each other appeared. The broom was a black and the wand was red and you knew who exactly it represented.
With mouth slightly agape from shock, you slowly looked up to see what the other two women’s reactions were. The Scarlet Witch was staring at the Black Widow while the Black Widow was giving you a studious stare that was very unnerving.
“I think we might be a little late for dinner.” The Black Widow said in a deep tone that sent shivers up your spine both from fear and from anticipation. “Why don’t you close the door and we can talk?”
Wanda stood from her seat and grinned, clearly not as concerned as Natasha seemed to be and not at all scared like you were. You had no idea what was going to happen from there on out, but it was sure going to be a good story to tell Billie when you saw her next.
