I think one shouldn't ignore the fact that you are two gay men talking about people you were never in your life sexually attracted to vs people you might have been at some point but now they've aged out of your bracket of interest, so to speak. You'd never call a "lad" you want to get with glamorous or chic, would you? Add to that the strong penchant for plastic surgery in famous women that men are just starting to vaguely catch up to, the fact that guys of a certain generation kind of stopped taking care of themselves and are statistically and famously bad at keeping an eye on their health and I'm getting the suspicion that it has little to do with "women this, men that" and more with factors that might actually change with millennials and younger, for whom fitness, for example, is a mass phenomenon.
