Video is late but here's an exciting update!

Hi all, you might've noticed that I just made a video public on Youtube (the daily routine, which I released here on Patreon a week ago). I'm trying to keep patrons "one video ahead" but unfortunately I don't have the next one ready yet due to some technical difficulties (and honestly we've also been busy preparing for the spring and the eventual ice breakup...) I'll try to have it in the next few days.

However here's a quick update from the boat. The ice around the boat is still around 60-70 cm thick but the tidal zone close to the shore is starting to break up. Yesterday we moved the snowmobile off the ice and parked it in the land. The question we get a lot is "what are you going to do with the snowmobile once the ice melts?". Since the route to Sisimiut soon won't be safe enough to travel, we will likely leave the snowmobile here on the shore and arrange for a small workboat to come pick it up (maybe with our help) a bit later. The locals have a small landing craft that should be able to do this.

We've also loaded up the sails (we stored them ashore) and emptied most of our reserve diesel into our main tank. For now it looks like we will have plenty of fuel left at the end of all of this.

The fjord is now open to both directions in front of our bay, yesterday we dragged the dinghy to the ice edge and went fishing (did not catch anything though).

When will the ice break up? It's honestly very hard to say. If we have stable spring weather, it will take a while for the ice to just rot and melt away from underneath. The sun is not doing that much right now because the snow on top of the ice is reflecting it away. But if we get a warm and wet storm, it'll melt the few centimetres of snow that we still have on top of the black ice, and after that the sun will do its work very quickly. Gale force winds alone might force the ice to break up.

We just have to wait and see, but generally speaking, the longer it takes the safer it will be (for us), because more and more of the ice mass slowly is disappearing each day..

If you'v missed it, here is our location if you want to take a look at it on the map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Y2BE8RNPUHQfyLmW8

Hi. Was watching a video from about a year ago when youse entered Alaska and skied. You and Sohvi skied up the mountain but she snowboarded down. I couldn’t see what you all dis with her skies. Or see the snowboard on the trip up the mountain. Do you have collapsing boards. Or skies. Thx. I’m a fan of good/great ingenuity so Im interested in how you do this.
