Hi all! I just received these photos from a friendly pilot of an Air Greenland route flight. Taken two days ago. They're from much higher up than my own drone photos so I thought you might enjoy seeing our bay from a different perspective!
In these photos you can clearly how right outside the bay there is an area with open water - this is where the fjord is shallow and massive amounts of water flow through with every tide cycle. At least a small area has been open throughout the whole winter.
When the ice breaks up and leaves, it will do so first in the main fjord. This will hopefully be to our advantage so that when our bay melts and breaks up, there will be far smaller masses of ice moving around..
Currently the ice in the bay still measures around 70 centimetres thick! (a bit over 2 feet). It is however mostly quite "soft" and not the type of hard ice that you get on fresh water lakes.
In the first photo you also see the snowmobile tracks, that's our tracks from our trips to the mountains to go skiing.
