Quick fly-by from Lumi!
Added 2025-02-25 18:04:23 +0000 UTCHi, quick update from us here on Lumi. Today we had a fun event as a patron (Nils) did a fly-by as he was moving one of the bigger Air Greenland helicopters from Ilulissat to southern Greenland! Goes on to show that we have a crazy wide variety of people here among us :)
The sharp-eyed of you will also notice that we now have a snowmobile parked behind the boat. We bought a used one and had it delivered by the locals; we can use it for emergencies and also in around a week we'll have a videographer friend of ours (Mikko-Pekka aka MP) coming to the boat, so we'll hopefully use the snowmobile to pick him up from Sisimiut.
MP will be filming some footage for a documentary style video that will be released later this year. Some of you might remember that he helped with editing some old footage for a very successful video that we released some months ago (this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOI6VNvmz68 ).
Having someone else film and edit brings in a whole other perspective that I think would be missed otherwise, as it's easy for me to become "blind" to the "normal" things that are happening in our own life. I'm also excited to learn more about how MP works and sees things and so on, it'll also help me improve my own video workflow and ideas. It is very special and also crazy to think about the fact that we can bring in a professional, and that would not be possible without the support of you all!
Anyway, back to the life here on board Lumi. The snowmobile is a nice addition but the ride from here to the closest town, Sisimiut, is treacherous. It is around 30 miles over mountains and sea ice, so it's only reserved for special occasions and good weather. I've already flipped the snowmobile once and got stuck a couple of times and honestly it seems like a pretty sketchy activity in this setting! (But we'll be careful). We're also building a small box for Nova, it'll be behind the passenger seat, and we've been training her to ride with us!
The days here are getting longer and now the sun reaches the boat for a few hours each day so we're able to use the solar panels for producing some electricity... We really enjoyed the dark time of the year but having the sun and longer days back sure is nice!
Anyway, I hope you're all doing great, thanks for the support!

2025-03-22 17:51:57 +0000 UTCEnjoy the snowmobile! you’ll find it’s a lot of fun if you pay attention to the conditions of the ice and watch out for cracks, flowing water and little hills. I myself have flipped the snowmobile many times and lived to tell the tale. But I always wear the proper clothing and helmet!

2025-02-26 04:55:08 +0000 UTCHi, I hope that have a good time with MP. Just don't forget that you are a great photographer and editor yourself, so don't sell yourself short. Learning from what others are doing is always inspiring so soak up all the tricks, then sort them through and keep what you think applies to you. Have (moderately, I don't know if you have the word "lagom" in your language) fun learning to drive the snowmobile All my best, Ann

2025-02-25 21:58:05 +0000 UTCCool update! Thanks for reporting back from weekend warriors like me. I think Lumi is a cool boat and it hurt me to think about the sounds of rubbing on ice. I know she can take it but that still had to be a horrible sound. I am not sure if I would sleep much with that even if not in a in a threatening situation. Glad to see you three thriving in Greenland!
