GM notes: I'm A Lover Not A Fighter + Lady Althea's Outfit & Zeppelin doodles
Added 2021-02-02 17:02:01 +0000 UTCHi! Welcome inside Jillian’s brain as I tell you about the snakes on a zep-plane (zeppelin) and playing I’m a Lover Not a Fighter with Anna Anthropy.
Jesse and I met Anna at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in 2019. She was leading LARP sessions of her game All My Exes Are In Mech Suits (which we played on the podcast in our first season of one-shots). Jesse and I naturally signed up to play since we’d been fans of Anna’s video games and writing for quite some time and we really wanted to meet her. We played the game just the three of us, and that really upgraded our friendship from Twitter Mutuals to Internet Friends.
When we started thinking about having guests on the show for this round of one-shots, I immediately thought of Anna. She’s a fan of the show, we’re a fan of her. Just makes sense. She pitched a few games to us, and we wanted something silly so this is what we went with and I’m very glad we did. Anna was so excited to play and a delight to have on mic. She even drew Lady Althea's outfit, which I've included below with her permission. When players bring so much enthusiasm and forethought to the table, it makes the GM job much more fun. There’s so much flavour to go off of. (Notes continue after the image)

[Image description: A hand drawn sketch of a woman's outfit with each piece labeled. It's titled Lady Althea Feverfew in curled script, subtitled "amorous, acrobatic smuggler". The woman has an inverted bob hair cut with short bangs, and a robin hood style hat with a feather called a bycoket. She has a neck corset, a silver/white catsuit with a square cleavage window, a cape, waist corset, and a large belt. She wears boots that go to her upper thigh with a hidden knife depicted beside. She holds a fencing foil with her gloved hands. An extra sketch of a gloved hand is provided next to the full body look. Additionally there is a face sketch with only lips, slashed with a scar. This is of course labeled "cool scar". The bottom has some character notes written out. Text is as follows "Preferred kiss. Life hand to lips, kiss back of fingers. (very hot). Preferred Drink: Rattle Skull. Dark beer, rum, lime juice, nut meg."]
If you’re wondering where Eli and Jordan are, they edited a large portion of this episode (which now means all five of us have edited the podcast!).
Okay and now you’re probably wondering, Jillian why was there a zeppelin in this episode and what happened there? I’m A Lover has tables for you to roll on to set the scene. So the setting, the mission, the baron, the security, and the secret are all things that were rolled for. The secret that only I knew (as decided by the dice) was that there was a zeppelin ready to leave at any moment. I have an incredibly vivid imagination but I often get nervous and struggle to verbally describe things. Please accept the following comic as a visual aid:

[Image description: A four panel hand drawn comic. There are 3 small panels on the top. The first one features Stick Figure Jillian shrugging with her hair in a bun and the title "Jillian Explains the Zeppelin Fiasco". The second panel has a crude cliff with the words "the south of France" in it. A rectangular building on top with a littler tower. Above the building it says "Fortress Nicolangelo". The moon is in the sky. In a bubble are the words "No zeppelin yet!". There are waves below. The waves are labeled "ocean" and the cliff is labeled "cliff". The third panel is a breakdown of the floors in the Fortress. The first floor is labeled "ball room", the second is labeled "balconies", there is an arrow from the second floor, up through the first floor and onto the roof labeled "shortcut". The roof is labeled "terrace". The fourth and final panel takes up the rest of the page. The Fortress on the cliff is back but with the zeppelin on it. The base of the zeppelin looks like large sailing ship out of water with three masts and a long balloon on top. The balloon is labelled "zeppelin". The bottom of the boat part has doors. Above the door is the snake zone. Above that is a room called "Holding". Text beside it says "Lady Althea escapes from here and climbs up". The boat is labelled "one part pirate ship" and the balloon is labeled "one part blimp". The equation equals "100% ridiculous". Above the zeppelin it says "During the party the zeppelin lands". Next to all this is sick figure Jillian hanging from a long rope wearing an eyepatch. She is holding a sword and saying "Behold the contents of my disaster brain! Hope this makes sense!"]
