DM Notes: Lakeshore 09

A new episode of Lakeshore is out today, and that means a new chance for me to pull back the curtain and give you a glimpse behind the scenes of the show! Let's jump into episode 9!

At the top of our recording session, we talked about how these characters had lots of business going on in the city, and we wanted to make sure that there was a balance with the overarching mystery and the rest of their lives. I wouldn't call this a breather episode--way too much happens for that to be the case--but it does call the focus back to what these characters do when they're not getting into barfights or investigating conspiracies.

I was super excited to run Nox's scene, because we really had left his demonic powers on the back burner since episode 4 or 5, and it was great to have a chance to bring Nat and Jackson back as well. Plus, from a production perspective, it was important to get Nox to divulge his backstory out loud, so it was fresh in the audience's mind for the episodes to come...

The other half of the episode, of Simon and Kitty dealing with Roman's bad trip, ended up counterbalancing Nox's scene nicely. Where Nox's rehearsal being crashed by a Catholic priest starts off funny and ends on a grisly note, Roman having a bad reaction to the wolves' sunshine starts off pretty tense but ends up slightly farcical as the gang wheel her around in a baby carriage trying to track down a cure.

I'd been waiting forever to see who was going to try the new batch of sunshine, and when--seeing as Roman and Simon first acquired it several episodes ago, and Roman had been toying with the idea of giving it to Ilyana. I wonder if she regrets not finding a guinea pig--or guinea pigasus--to test it on first. Of course, now that they know what it does and they have a couple of vials left, there's no telling where it may end up!

Lastly, something from the notes that didn't make the episode at all--I left it pretty much open to Jorie, Jillian, and Eli to talk about a scene or scenes they wanted to run, but in case they weren't sure, I did have an outline worked out for Susan to have a chance to hunt more demons in the park. With so much going on in Lakeshore, I try to be really attentive of making sure we don't let any plot threads fall away, and the rogue demons of Fairmont Park have moved to the background a bit in the last while. But I don't think that will be the case for long.

That's all for me! Enjoy this episode, and I'll see you next time!
