DM Notes: Lakeshore 05

Welcome back to another behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of Many Realms! This time we're covering episode 05 of Lakeshore: Somebody Stole My Gal.

This episode is naturally a bit of a breather after the intensity of Episode 04, but it's also a great chance to develop scenes between Nox and Susan (who have been circling around each other for a while) and Kitty and Roman (who have been apart for years).

I think my personal favourite part of this episode (though I'm definitely biased) was a chance to start scratching the surface of the character of Kitty's husband Philip. 

It's been a lot of fun to collaborate with Jorie on this concept for her character, and giving the character a lot of melodramatic dialogue and a silly voice has created a sort of broad caricature of a 20th-century blowhard husband.

But my hope is that setting Philip up like this will provide a richness to the narrative as more of his character is revealed. His scene with Kitty and Roman in this episode certainly confirms that he is stubborn, largely self-centred, and fairly oblivious. But it also demonstrates his intense passion for and protectiveness over Kitty, and his willingness to do absolutely anything for her safety and happiness. As the campaign progresses, I only want to further complicate his character with attributes good and bad as the audience spends more time around him. Flat, funny characters are fine for a single scene, but I knew Philip was going to be around for a while, and I wanted to make sure there was more to him than meets the eye.

As a bonus, if you're interested in using Max's gun in an Urban Shadows campaign, or just interested in some of the more nitty gritty mechanics of the world.

Max's enchanted pistol has the tags 2 harm loud close/far. But, because of its enchantment, it has the ability to be loaded with corresponding enchanted bullets. The fire bullets she used at the Hardware give the gun the tags 3 harm loud fire close/far. 

Who knows? There might be other magic weapons--or even other special bullets--floating around the city of Lakeshore...
