Noise commander in 2025
Added 2025-01-01 09:09:55 +0000 UTCHappy new year!
First a look back to what happened in 2024:
9 versions released
Made beats with samples from Pikmin 3 game
Visited the Evoke demo-party in Cologne and submitted a demo/advert for the 3DS named "Pocket beats adventure", placed 14th in the compo
Made 14 beats during the #Beatober 24 challenge
Uploaded 30 ish Youtube videos
Made a limited demo version available (will submit to Universal Updater soon)
My Fasttracker 2 youth-chiptunes video got more than 14 thousand views
Reached ~450 Youtube followers
Features I hope to add to the app in the coming year (may be overly optimistic or not feasible).
Parameter automation (requires having separate effects instances per deck)
Probability in sequencer (mostly done)
Audio-looper (currently work in progress)
Playlists and cue-points for DJing
More effects
Synthesis (tailored to reeses and wubs)
More LFOs and Envelopes
Midi clock synchronization via Infrared and/or WiFi
4-channel wav recording
4 channel streamed wav playback for backing tracks (and potentially overdubbing)
Separate looper-interface for dragging loops into the sequencer
"Crafting" mode for mangling and manipulating samples with effects or generating FM noises baked as audio sample
Basic editing-mode for long audio jams to delete "boring" bars
Built-in file transfer/synchronization from/to PC
DAW integration via linux CLAP plug-in for Reaper, Renoise and Bitwig
Which feature is most important to you?
I will try to make the next demo version available via the Universal Updater with the hope to attract more users.
I believe I might have a tendency to oversell the app in the youtube videos implicitly. The user interface is very clunky and so far nobody is using it on a regular basis. It would be so cool to listen to tunes made from someone else for a change.
There is a saying that a piece of software needs to be written three times until it is good. I got two rewrites ahead of me then.
I am also considering to make one or more additional crowd-funding campaigns on other platforms for development sprints.
Thanks for caring and best wishes to you for 2025.
Yours, Mr. Gearmo 3DS.

Yes, have we met in person in the 90s by any chance? :) I hid the name out of paranoia of being targeted by Nintendo for making Noise Commander. It's pretty silly and unfounded after all.

2025-03-09 18:20:17 +0000 UTCI have an M8 actually but I am not very used to it yet. I think it is possible, I am adding it to my todo list. It may not be of the same quality as the M8 in the end but better than nothing. Thanks for joining my journey :)

2025-01-21 11:17:20 +0000 UTChey! this caught my attention! very nice project and a nice alternative to my M8 so i'll be studying your videos to learn how to use Noise Commander properly. my question is: do you think it would be possible to add a master compressor/limiter sort of like the one M8 has? it be super super useful and perhaps DSP-wise it's not very expensive.
